lyrics

I grew up in North Dakota with the Midwest Prairie Blues
Kickin cans, chased butterflies, but I didn't wear shoes
Had calloused toes from the old dirt road that led to my house
Juneberry stains on a white t-shirt that never did come out

And my biggest thrill, a million miles per hour
Sleddin down a hill, straight for barbed wire
My brother yellin, "Duck! But don't tell mama.
She'll be mad as hell. It ain't worth the drama."

I grew up in Great Dakota, was a child of the Northern Plains
Grew sweet and strong as a wildflower with every growing pain
But when winter comes it brings the cold and even flowers hibernate
And save for the love of God, there's nothin that don't change

But my biggest thrill is still, a million miles per hour
Sleddin down a hill, straight for barbed wire
My brother yellin, "Duck! But don't tell mama.
She'll be mad as hell. It ain't worth the drama."

Now I find myself in Minnesota, but it gets cold here too
The sky gets dark, the nights get long, I start to miss those prairie tunes
I start to sing those songs I used to play with the tall grass and the moon
Cuz there ain't no place I've been to yet can bleach those Juneberry blues

And my biggest thrill is still, a million miles per hour
Sleddin down a hill, straight for barbed wire
My brother yellin, "Duck! But don't tell mama.
She'll be mad as hell. It ain't worth the drama."
